The Homecoming Victory

Michael Gray

September 13, 2013 – American Fork played their homecoming game against Riverton. In the first quarter, they had a painful start with a couple of turnovers. Zach Katoa and Riley Smith brought the game back alive with two awesome touchdown runs before the half. The other bright side of the first half was that the defense stopped the hungry Wolves from their three straight extra points attempts. At the half, the Cavemen stepped back onto the field with more mention. Zach struck back with another fantastic 8 yard run to the end zone. Heading into the last quarter they were still down by four points leaving the Caveman fans to ask the question  “Will they come back and win?” Absolutely!  With five minutes remaining, Riley saved the game with an unbelievable touchdown! They were able to stop the Wolves and steal the victory 28-25.

The Cavemen fought back with determination in their veins. I couldn’t help but remember the quote from Joe Lighting Little in the movie Red Trails– “From the last plane, to the last bullet, to the last minute, to the last man, we fight!” Chorus of Airmen–“We fight!” American Fork is on the road for the next two games. Come support the Cavemen next Friday at Westlake HS in Saratoga Springs.
